Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about my services, methods, and how I work.

General Questions

Are you insured and bonded?

Yes. I carry professional liability insurance and am fully bonded to protect both you and your pet. Additionally, as a licensed NJ Animal Control Officer (License #03638), I meet state standards for professional animal handling and safety.

What areas do you serve?

I serve all of Somerset County, New Jersey, including Bridgewater, Somerville, Warren, Basking Ridge, and surrounding communities. I may also serve select areas in neighboring counties on a case-by-case basis. View my full service area.

How do I get started?

Simply contact me or call (908) 443-1058 to schedule a meet & greet. During this meeting, I'll discuss your pet's needs, answer your questions, and we'll determine if I'm the right fit for your family.

What happens during a meet & greet?

A meet & greet is a 30-45 minute introductory session where I meet you and your pet, discuss your needs, observe your pet's behavior, and answer any questions. There's no obligation to move forward. Learn more about meet & greets.

Training & Methods

Do you use punishment-based training methods?

No. I use LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) and positive reinforcement methods exclusively. This means no shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, or harsh physical corrections. Training should build trust and confidence, not fear. Read about my training philosophy.

What is LIMA training?

LIMA stands for "Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive." It's a guiding principle that prioritizes the most effective, least stressful training methods first—such as positive reinforcement, environmental management, and clear communication. The goal is to achieve behavioral change while minimizing stress, fear, and discomfort for your pet.

What if my dog has behavioral issues like reactivity?

I work with dogs experiencing a wide range of behavioral challenges, including leash reactivity and fear-based behaviors. I want to be transparent: I do not take cases involving true aggression. Reactivity is a response to a trigger—that's something I can work with. True aggression is different and requires a specialist I'm not currently equipped to take on. If I'm not the right fit, I'll tell you honestly during the meet & greet and point you in the right direction.

Services & Scheduling

What services do you offer?

I offer dog walking, drop-in visits, private training sessions, behavioral consultations, trail walks, pet transportation & assistance, and small pet care. View all services.

How long are dog walks?

Dog walks are available in 30-minute or 60-minute options. The right length depends on your dog's age, energy level, and needs. We'll discuss the best fit during the meet & greet.

Can you walk multiple dogs at once?

Yes, but I keep groups small (maximum 3 dogs) to ensure safety, individual attention, and proper management. If you have multiple dogs in your household, we can walk them together or separately depending on their compatibility and your preferences.

Do you offer pet sitting?

I do offer pet sitting, but on a case-by-case basis. It's primarily available for existing clients I already have a relationship with—not typically for new clients booking for the first time. Reach out and we can discuss whether it's the right fit for your situation.

Do you offer overnight pet sitting?

Currently, I focus on drop-in visits rather than overnight stays. However, I can schedule multiple visits per day to ensure your pet is well-cared for while you're away—including early morning, midday, evening, and late-night check-ins as needed.

How far in advance should I book services?

For dog walks and drop-in visits, I can often accommodate last-minute requests—just reach out and I'll let you know my availability. For vacation or extended care coverage, I ask for 2–4 weeks advance notice since that takes more planning on my end.

Safety & Trust

Are you trained in pet first aid and CPR?

Yes. I am certified in Pet First Aid & CPR through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI). I'm trained to recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including choking, wounds, heatstroke, and cardiac events. Your pet's safety is always my top priority.

What happens if my pet has a medical emergency while in your care?

In the event of a medical emergency, I will immediately contact you and, if necessary, transport your pet to your preferred veterinarian or the nearest emergency vet clinic. I carry pet first aid supplies and am trained to provide stabilization care while seeking professional veterinary attention.

How do I know you'll show up for scheduled visits?

Reliability is essential in pet care. I send confirmation messages before scheduled visits and provide photo/text updates during or after each service. If an unexpected situation ever prevents me from making a visit, I will notify you immediately and work with you to arrange alternative care.

Can I trust you in my home?

Yes. As a licensed professional (NJ ACO #03638) with insurance and bonding, I take the trust you place in me very seriously. I follow your instructions carefully, respect your home and belongings, and provide transparent communication about each visit. Many clients provide me with keys or access codes for ongoing services.

Pricing & Payment

How much do your services cost?

Pricing varies by service type, duration, and frequency. I discuss pricing during the meet & greet after understanding your specific needs. All rates are transparent with no hidden fees.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept check, Venmo, and Zelle. When you book, you'll receive a welcome email with full payment details.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours advance notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Emergency situations are handled on a case-by-case basis. View my full policies.
